Buddhism ordination ceremony in Elephant Village Surin Thailand
งานบุญประเพณีบวชนาคช้าง วันขึ้น 13, 14 และ 15 ค่ำ เดือนหก ของทุกปี ณ หมู่บ้านช้าง บ้านตากลาง ตำบลกระโพ อำเภอท่าตูม จังหวัดสุรินทร์ ก่อนเข้าสู่ฤดูกาลผลิตทำนาใหม่ในเดือน6 ของทุกปี ชาวกวยมีความเชื่อการบวชในศาสนาพุทธ เพื่อขอขมาลาโทษ ทดแทนบุญคุณบุพกาลี แล้ววิถีการดำเนินชีวิตของพวกเขาในหมู่บ้า น จะอยู่เย็นเป็นสุข ทำมาหากินสะดวก ปราศจากโรคภัยไข้เจ็บ ฝนฟ้าก็จะตกต้องตามฤดูกาลฯลฯ TaKlang Elephant Village TaKlang village is located some 58 kilometers north of town. It can be reached via roadway No. 214 (Chomphra-Thatoom) , and visitors need to make a leftturn at Ban-Nongtart crossroad which is only 15 kilometers from Thatoom district. From the acrossroad, drive straight-forward for some 22 kilometers and you will reach the village. Oringinally, TaKlang villagers were those Suay people skillful in capturing wild elephants, training and raising them. In old days the Suay people had to go very far to the boader on the Kampuchea People's Republic to round up the animals. At present, however, a rather serious political situation prevents TaKlang villagers to go catching elephants in that area. Still, they continue to raise and train elephants for labor use and for a good preparation to participate in the Round-Up. In regard to this, TaKlang villagers' method of raising elephants is obviously distinguished from that of the Northern Thais. In the North the purpose of elephant raising is mainly for labor use, but here the Suay people treat their elephants as a member of their family. Thus, you will have a first-hand experience to contact this native people's way of life and to directly ecperience elephantes'houses' condition if you go to TaKlang Elephant Village. In addition to this, you will have an opportunity to talk to professional mahouts who are very experienced in roundding up elephants. At TaKlang village its wild edge is fortunately perfect for both sight -- seeing and recreating especially at the beach where the Moon River and the Chee River meet. Every year from October through November, it is a time of a demontration of elephant training for early visitors. Any visitor wishes to observe the training prior to the Round-Up may contact Office of the Governor in town or notify directly at TaKlang village. Doing so will provide mahouts adequate time to prepare everything. |
